Understanding the service

What is this service?

Wenchang Rite is a private Taoist ceremony centred on intentions involving learning, examinations, intellectual work and professional or creative development.

The rite draws upon the traditional reverence of Wenchang, a divine figure associated with scholarship, literature and cultivated achievement.

Traditional context

Within Chinese religious tradition, Wenchang has long been associated with scholarship, literature, learning and cultivated achievement.

The Wenchang Rite gives a sincere academic, professional or creative intention a formal Taoist ceremonial expression.

It may be chosen by students, examination candidates, professionals, writers, researchers or others entering an important period of intellectual or creative work.

Choose Wenchang Rite when study, examination, intellectual work or creative dedication is the central intention.

Choose Blessing Rite for a broader personal intention, or Yang-Shi Rite when academic or professional concerns form part of a larger interconnected life situation.
