Understanding the service

What is this service?

Yue-Lao Relationship Rite is a private Taoist ceremony centred on sincere intentions concerning love, partnership and marriage.

The observance draws upon the traditional Chinese reverence of Yue-Lao, a divine figure associated with relationships and marital bonds, and is individually conducted in Shandong, China.

Traditional context

Within Chinese religious tradition, Yue-Lao is closely associated with relationships, partnership and marriage.

The Yue-Lao Relationship Rite creates a formal ceremonial setting in which a sincere relationship or marriage intention may be presented with reverence and dedication.

The rite may be arranged for a single person seeking a future relationship or, where appropriate, around an existing relationship. It is not designed to compel another person’s feelings or choices.

Choose Yue-Lao Relationship Rite when relationship or marriage intention is the central purpose of the ceremony.

Choose Blessing Rite for a broader focused intention, or Yang-Shi Rite when the relationship concern is part of a larger interconnected life situation.
